Dr. Wan Yang, used to be a scientist, got his Master Degree in Arizona State University in 1989 and PhD in the University of Vermont in 1994, majoring in Molecular Biology. He set up the “UVM Alumni for Chinese Students and Scholars” during his PhD study and being the president. Then together with few friends, they created “Alumni of Northeast of China”, he was vice president. He was also elected to be the president for “Northeast Association” of Washington Metropolitans Area. After moving to Houston in 2003, Dr. Yang founded “Shenyang Friendship Association” and being the President for two years! Currently, he is a Vice Chairman of The Board of Trustees of Chinese Civic Center and the Vice President of Texas Peaceful Unification of China.
In 1996 Dr. Yang successfully switched from his science career to financial industry and currently is the Field Chairman and the Member of the Chairman Circle of a big financial firm. During over 22 years business career, he has helped over 500 people to become manager and 20 people to become the top executives of the firm and about 10 people to become millionaires. He has paved the path for the scientists/scholars with bare hands to become a successful entrepreneur! His business is across the North America!
Dr. Yang started learning music during his teenager; he joined a music band playing accordion at middle school and had access to many kinds of musical instruments. He can play Accordion, Erhu, Bamboo Flute, Xiao, Ruan and Trumpet etc. Starting 2005, he was amazed by hulusi bamboo instrument and started learning by himself. He can play many solos of hulusi and bawu now and everybody love it.
With three other music funs, they found the “Houston Chinese Traditional Music Group” in December 2008, and has been the President for over six years. He has participated many formal performances and played various instruments for different societies, communities, corporations and Senior Citizens. He found “Houston Folk Band with Ms. Chen in 2017 and is Chairman.
He has been taking Accordion lessens with Mr. Mario Pedone, a world known accordionist since October 2010 and had a great progress. In 2013 and 2017, Dr. Yang attended twice “Concerto Camp” held by the Concerto Inventor—Mr. Paul Pasquali, focusing on performing skills on Concerto accordion.
He has been taking the vocal lessons from Victor Wang, the famous tenor in Houston area. In 2015, Dr. Yang was so fortunate to be coached by Hulusi and Bawu master Mr. Rongchang Lin, and has achieved a big progress. He received the gold medal award in Hulusi/Bawu competition of China in Guangdong, 2016!
Dr. Yang also attended twice special trainings in 2009 and 2017 on Music Talents for foreign Chinese by China Oversea Affairs Office of the State Council. He is the Chairman for 2017 “Embracing Spring” Chinese New Year Concert of Houston.
作为科学家的杨万青博士, 于1982年大学毕业后留校任教，并于1986年公派赴美留学，分别在亚利桑那州立大学和佛蒙特大学获得硕士和博士学位, 主攻分子生物学。读博期间，杨博士创建了“佛蒙特中国学生学者联谊会”，并担任会长。在国家健康研究院（NIH）做博士后期间，和几位老乡创立了“大华府地区东北校友会”, 任副会长。1995年， 杨博士担任了大华府地区 “东北同乡会” 会长。2003年来到休斯顿后， 又创建了“沈阳联谊会”，并担任会长两年。杨博士现任休斯顿中国人活动中心董事会的副董事长和德州中国和平统一促进会副会长。
1996年, 杨博士成功的从一名科学家转型为知名的金融企业家, 现任职场副主席。22多年来培养了近500多位职业经理，20多位高级主管，造就了十多位百万富翁，开辟了留学生白手起家，在北美创业的先河！分公司遍布整个北美！
杨博士自幼喜爱音乐, 因此他被选进了中学文艺队担任手风琴手。 在多年的排练，演出当中, 他又自学了二胡, 笛子, 萧，大/中阮, 小号等多种乐器. 于2005年起, 由于赵本山在电视连续剧和女子十二乐坊中的葫芦丝演奏, 杨博士又对葫芦丝和巴乌着了迷。 如今他可以演奏多首葫芦丝和巴乌名曲, 深受观众的喜爱。
2008年12月，杨万青博士联手三位音乐发烧友成立了“休斯敦中华民乐团”， 并担任团长六年之久。六年来，乐团进行了多场大型和无数次中小型演出，为社区各社团，海外侨胞和美国观众等带来了诸多欢乐，也为增进中美友谊，与各民族间的相互了解做出了卓越的贡献。2017年杨博士又和陈毓玲女士创建了“休斯顿民乐团”，并任理事长。同年又创建了“美国休斯顿中华民族器乐葫芦丝巴乌学会”并担任会长。
自2010年起, 杨博士开始师从Mario Pedone (著名国际手风琴大师）进行专业手风琴的进修，演奏水平得到了极大的提高。于2013和2017年，杨博士分别参加了两届由Concerto Accordion的发明人Paul Pasquali大师主办的Concerto Accordion研习班，专门研究Concerto电子手风琴的演奏技巧。
自2013年起，杨博士开始师从休斯顿著名男高音歌唱家王维国老师学习声乐，并多次在演唱会上演出。期间还得到了姚锋，张丽，张昕伟，刘清华，少芳，叶彦及钱护壮老师的指导.
自2015年起， 杨博士又有幸拜在葫芦丝，巴乌作曲，演奏，教育大师林荣昌恩师门下， 精修葫芦丝，巴乌演奏技巧，获益匪浅，演奏水平得到了极大的提高！在2016年夏季中国广东葫芦丝，巴乌全国邀请赛上喜获金奖！
杨博士和太太陆曦女士还先后于2009和2017年两次参加由国务院侨办举办的第13和第54期“文化中国---海外华人文化社团中华才艺培训班”，获益匪浅！杨博士还担任了大休斯顿地区2017“拥抱春天”春晚的主席！
